Trusting Mo - sometimes a struggle..

This is frustrating. When Mo Johnston decides to lead the MLS in saying "pass" in the latter rounds of the college draft last week, you had to wonder. On one hand, would any other sports team in this (or any) market get away with not using draft choices ? Even if he was only going to make a claim on those players fully expecting to either trade them or let them play USL and hold onto their rights, why turn down the opportunity ? Is this a form of Mo arrogance, he believes so much in the quality of his first six picks that he can say pass three times. Yet hope springs eternal. Maybe this is a sign that the overdue flood of signings we have been waiting for is just around the corner.
There must be a number of Canadians to be signed the development roster alone. I still think we have seen Jeff Cunningham play his last game for TFC. Someone is going to gamble that last year was the blip and look at his scoring in recent years and make a deal for him.
I should learn to avoid Internet rumours, remember I had Del Piero signing for us last November. The latest buzz is around Darren Huckerby and Stefano Fiore. Fingers crossed - I will wait until something is officially confirmed.

Rumour update - Both the Guardian in the UK and The Globe and Mail soccer blog with Ben Knight have talked about Huckerby. Too bad the Guardian is sending him to the Toronto Fire.

It's interesting that the Norwich website lists Huckerby as potentially missing the next game vs Southamton due to an injection for a "cronic hip problem". Are we picking up a player that could be injured for a number of games during our season (a la almost everyone on the team last year) or is this just posing on Norwich's part? Could the doctor be doing physicals instead of injections?

Darren Huckerby has been a consistent one point every 1.5 - 2.5 games in the Championship, a level probably slightly higher than the current MLS. Last season, he managed a decent 8 goals and 10 assists in 39 games, while in his big 2003/04 season, he contributed 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points in just 36 games.
And this has been mostly as a winger, not as a forward. With this in mind, I would expect Huckerby to bring massive help to Toronto FC's struggling offence. Do not be surprised if can can contribute a goal or assist every 2 games and perhaps rank among the league leaders in points from a non-striker.
